Wichita Clinic Now Provides More Advanced Breast Imaging with Breast MRI

Bruce Elson, MD

(Wichita, KS) — Wichita Clinic is pleased to announce that we now offer Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as an additional tool to diagnose breast cancer in patients.  A woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, making it one of the leading cancers among women, according to the American Cancer Society.

“With breast cancer being one of the most common cancers in women today, there is a critical need to diagnose and treat this disease earlier,” said Larry Leopold, Radiology Manager.  “MRI technology gives us a three-dimensional rendering of the affected area, providing a more complete picture of hard-to-see cancer, helping to improve treatment options.”  According to the American Cancer Society, more than 40,000 people in the U.S. die from breast cancer each year.  The need for new options in medical imaging is obvious.

When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96%, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. “The ability to cure breast cancer is strongly influenced by the stage of the cancer at diagnosis,” said Bruce Elson, MD, Radiologist.  “Breast MRI provides another option in detecting breast cancer earlier, ultimately enabling more options for treating and curing our patients.”

Breast MRI is performed at Wichita Clinic Founders’ Circle location (1947 Founders’ Circle, Wichita, KS 67206) using a 1.5 Tesla (1.5T) open bore MRI.  Appointments can be made by calling 316-613-4610.
