Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long does it take for drug screen results to come back?
A. Negative results are reported to your employer in 24-36 hours. Our physician will contact you to discuss any positive results usually within 2-3 days following collection. Results are reported to your employer immediately following the physician’s discussion with you.

Q. Will I be notified of drug screen results when they are done?
A. You will only be contacted if the laboratory determines the sample is positive.

Q. Do I need a photo ID to complete a drug screen?
A. Yes. Any government issued ID with your picture and name on it will suffice. Employer issued ID badges are also acceptable. We will not conduct a drug screen until ID is present.

Q. Can I be seen by a physician or complete a drug screen if I am under the age of 18?
A. Yes. However, if you are under the age of 18, we need a legal guardian present to provide consent.

Q. Can I get a copy of my physical and drug screen so I can keep it for myself?
A. You will need to contact our Medical Records department at 689-9577 if you want copies of any records. Your employer may also be able to provide you with copies.

Q. If I don’t want to put an injury under the workers compensation insurance, can I put it under my own private health insurance?
A. In the state of Kansas, all work-related injuries are the responsibility of the employer. We will bill your employer or their insurance for any necessary treatment. If your injury is not related to work, you will need to make an appointment with your primary care physician.

Q. Can I call and make an appointment for a new work injury or does my employer need to call?
A. Any treatment for a work related injury must be authorized by the company. Most new injuries are handled on a walk-in basis. Follow-up appointments are typically made in conjunction with you and your employer.

Q. Do I need to make an appointment for a drug screen?
A. No. Clients needing a drug screen are seen on a first come, first serve basis.

Q. What is the latest time I can come in for a drug screen?
A. We close at 5 PM so as long as you arrive before then, we are happy to meet your needs.

Q. Can I get a TB test done here and have it read somewhere else?
A. We have found that having your test read elsewhere is an inefficient and often times more costly process than having it done at one facility. It is easy to forget you need to have the test read and most medical offices charge a fee to interpret the test if they didn’t administer it. We will make every attempt to accommodate your needs based on the hiring timeframe, length of the test and schedules but we strongly encourage all of our clients to return to OHS to have the test read.

Drug Abuse in the Workplace

Drug abuse in America is a problem that affects everyone. Drug abuse is so widespread that the U.S., with 5% of the world’s population, consumes 60% of the entire world’s supply of illicit drugs. With so many people abusing these substances, business owners can’t help but wonder how it affects their company. Decades of research has shown that employers who develop, implement and annually review their drug testing policy can save thousands of dollars in annual costs.

Facts about Drug Abuse in the Workplace
  1. The US Department of Labor estimates that drug use in the workplaces costs employers $100-$115 billion dollars annually in the form of lost time, accidents, health care and workers’ compensation.
  2. On average, drug abusers cost employers $7,000 to $10,000 a year.
  3. Drug users, on average, are 1/3 less productive, absent or late 16 times more often, 3.6 times more likely to injure themselves or someone else on the job, 6 times more likely to file a workman’s compensation claim, 5 times more likely to injure themselves off the job and incur 300% higher medical costs than non-drug using employees.
  4. 65% of accidents on the job are caused by employees that choose to use illicit drugs.
  5. In a survey of drug-abusers:
    1. 64% admitted that drugs had adversely affected their job performance
    2. 44% said they had sold drugs to other employees
    3. 18% said they had stolen from co-workers to support their habits

It is always best to seek appropriate legal counsel when developing the language for your drug testing policy. Once that policy is in place however, you can count on Occupational health Services to provide you with the highest level of integrity and privacy during the collection process. All of our collection personnel are DOT trained and adhere to the strictest of standards. Furthermore, our MRO’s have a combined 30+ years of experience in Occupational Medicine and are available to answer any questions you may have regarding the testing process.

If you are in need of drug screen collection services and/or MRO services, we invite you to try us out. We are confident that Occupational Health Services at Wichita Clinic can meet all of your drug testing needs.
