Wichita Clinic Surgery Center

Surgical procedures are performed at Wichita Clinic on patients who do not require an extended hospital stay. Wichita Clinic Surgery Center minimizes the time spent away from family and work, and allows you to recover in the comfortable surrounding of your own home. In most cases, the expense is substantially less than that of a hospital stay. We trust that you will enjoy your short stay with us and appreciate the skill, warmth and professionalism of Wichita Clinic's Surgery Center team.

Wichita Clinic's Surgery Center features:

  • ACLS Registered Nurses
  • AAAHC Accreditation
  • Board Certified Anesthesiologists

Please refer questions concerning insurance, surgery or the length of time off, etc. to your surgeon's office.

Before Arrival

A Surgery Center nurse will call you the day before your surgery with an arrival time and to perform a health review. The arrival time is not the procedure start time. Please call (316) 613-4931 after 4 pm if you have not received a call. Please have the following information ready:

  • List of your medications, dosage & frequency
  • Drug allergies & reaction
  • The name of your driver and the person responsible for your care at home for the first 24 hours following your return home
  • Dates of previous surgeries
  • Medical problems and conditions you may have (for instance - asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, etc.)

If a work release is needed or family leave and insurance papers need to be completed, please provide these to your doctor's office prior to your surgery date.

Going Home

Upon your dismissal, your nurse will speak with you and your driver/caretaker about:

  • What to expect and things to watch for
  • Activity and diet after your surgery
  • When to call the doctor for follow-up care
  • Medications that you may be taking

Some degree of pain is expected following surgery and pain medications will be provided. Please remember that pain medicine is not an anesthetic. It makes the pain tolerable so that you can rest, but it will not usually make you pain-free.

As an outpatient facility, only liquids will be provided for you after surgery. When you leave, an adult must drive you home and stay with you the first 24 hours following your surgery.

Within a few days, you should receive a telephone call from your nurse to check on your recovery. If you have any questions, please call: (316) 613-4931.

If an issue remains unresolved during or after your Wichita Clinic Surgery Center visit, you may call the Kansas Department of Health and Environment at: 1-800-842-0078.

Overnight Stay Instructions

  • You may have a family member stay with you the night of your surgery. If they leave after 9 pm, Security will escort them to their vehicle, but they may not return unless there is an emergency and the nurse has called them back. Visitors must stay within the family members' room as most of the Surgery Center is closed in the evening.
  • The patient's meals will be provided by the nursing staff.
  • You should bring only a few personal items with you. These may include your toothbrush, toothpaste, brush or comb. A robe and slippers are optional, but not required. In fact, you may be more comfortable without anything binding around your waist.
  • Since Wichita Clinic Surgery Center is licensed to care for patients for only 24 hours from time of check-in, most of our patients will be dismissed sometime the next morning. Before you are discharged, the staff will review with you and your family member your discharge instructions from your physician. Your discharge instructions will be sent with you as will any prescriptions. If you have any questions after leaving Wichita Clinic Surgery Center, contact your physician's office. If you have questions after regular business hours please call the physician exchange at (316) 262-6262 to be connected with your physician or the physician on-call. A member of the Surgery Center nursing staff will contact you within a day or two of your surgery to check the progress of your recovery.
  • If you should have any questions or concerns regarding your upcoming stay, please feel free to call Wichita Clinic Surgery Center: (316) 613-4931 or your physician's office.
